Leviticus 25:10

10You shall make the fiftieth year holy, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee to you; and each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family.

Ree-hah! What a heavenly idea! Free the slaves. Cancel the debts. Do not take advantage of each other. Let the land rest. Wipe the slate clean and start fresh. This is what Jubilee is all about. It was a national re-boot of the entire system! Jesus declared a Jubilee when he preached in his hometown at Nazareth: “He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18–19). A Jubilee mindset says: “I forgive you of all debts, whether physical emotional or material. I will not hold anyone in bondage to me or to this world’s system. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1).

Father, thank you for setting me free! As you speak Jubilee over me today; let me be quick to forgive, cancel debts, live free in you, and set the captives around me free. I release to you my urge to be in control. Amen.
